Why Your Website Isn’t Converting — And How to Fix It
A good-looking website is great. But if it’s not turning visitors into customers, something’s not working.
At West Meadow Marketing, we meet business owners all the time who say,
- “Our site looks fine. We’re just not getting results.”
Here’s the truth: If your website doesn’t convert, it’s not helping your business grow. Let’s fix that.
Below are five common reasons websites don’t convert—and exactly what you can do about them.
1. It's Not Immediately Clear What You Do
When someone lands on your site, you have less than 5 seconds to make an impression. If your headline doesn’t clearly state who you are, what you offer, and why it matters, you’re losing people before they scroll.
Fix it:
Craft a strong value proposition at the top of your homepage. No fluff. Think:
- “Custom Landscaping Services in Bowling Green — Trusted by 300+ Homeowners.”
Be specific, and use language your customer would actually say.
2. Calls-to-Action Are Weak or Missing
“Contact us” and “Learn more” aren’t strong CTAs. They don’t create urgency, and they don’t tell visitors what they’ll get in return.
Use action-based, benefit-driven phrases instead:
- "Get a Free Quote in 24 Hours"
- "See Our Pricing"
- "Start Your Project Today""
Make sure your CTA buttons are placed strategically—above the fold, mid-page, and again near the bottom.

3. Your Website Isn’t Built for Mobile
If your website looks great on desktop but clunky on a phone, you’re losing a huge portion of traffic. Over 60% of site visits come from mobile devices—and mobile users are less patient.
What to do:
Test your site on multiple screen sizes. Your text should be readable without zooming, buttons should be easy to tap, and images should scale without slowing load times. A mobile-friendly design isn’t optional anymore—it’s expected.
4. Pages Take Too Long to Load
If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, a third of your visitors may leave before they see a thing. Page speed directly impacts conversions—and even your Google rankings.
What to do:
- Compress your images
- Eliminate unnecessary plugins
- "Start Your Project Today""
- Consider switching to faster hosting
- Use caching tools to speed things up
At West Meadow, we routinely optimize client sites for speed as part of our redesigns—and the difference is night and day.
5. You’re Not Building Trust
Even if someone loves what you offer, they won’t convert if they don’t trust you. If your site feels outdated or lacks credibility indicators, expect hesitation.
What to do:
- Add testimonials
- Add client logos
- Add case studies/projects
- Add photos of your team
Bonus: Use real numbers and results wherever possible. Make sure to include social proof! Need more reviews and testimonials? Visit our Reputation Management page to learn more!
